Fisher Files - The Weekend Goes Sour!

(Bill W) July 19, 2010 – Some weeks your car is very fast, but the results just don’t show it. That was the case for Josh Fisher last weekend in his racing with the Northrop #83 at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois, and in the Ozark Barge & Dock Services #86. A bid for a fourth win at Lake Ozark Speedway turned upside down with four laps to go. He will try it again this weekend in the same two locations…thanks to the help of Impact Sign & Lighting of Sedalia.

Things were going great in the 410 sprinter at Jacksonville in the heat and the dash. “We were running really well heading into the feature,” says the Smithton, Missouri driver. “We were able to win both the heat and the dash. We had about a half track lead on them in the dash, so the car was running well.”

Hopes were high heading into the feature on the banked ¼ mile oval. “We started on the pole, and we didn’t get the best start,” says Josh. “We were in fourth when I hit the shifter with my elbow. It popped out of gear, and I shoved it back in real quick. It kept trying to pop out of gear, and I had to hold it in the rest of the way. Then when I finally got to the pits, it wouldn’t come out of gear, so the shifter was broken.”

Josh would checker tenth in the feature, with the shifter dividing his attention. The next night at Lake Ozark Speedway near Eldon, Missouri, preliminary events would go as they typically do. “We were able to get the lead by lap three or four, and win it,” says Josh of his heat after starting seventh. “The track was similar to last week in that it was pretty fast. We ended up second in the dash, but that was o.k., because I prefer to start on the outside in the feature.”

Just like the two weeks prior, Josh set sail on the 1/3 mile oval and was in control. It looked like his fourth win of the season and third in a row at LOS. “We were able to get out to a good lead,” he says. “Last week, there hadn’t been cautions, but this week, we had several. But I probably had a good straightaway lead when the accident happened with four laps to go.”

Disaster struck in lapped traffic. “We came upon a lapped car, and he had been going low,” says Josh. “That time, he decided to slide up the track, and there I was. I just held on from there. The weekend kind of went sour.”

Thanks to his sponsor, Josh will be back in action at LOS on Saturday, and of course, in the Northrop #83 at Jacksonville on Friday. “The car is bent pretty good, so we’ll need a different one,” he says of the #86. “I think the motor will be o.k. With the help of Impact Sign & Lighting in Sedalia, we’ll be able to make it back out this weekend.”
