Fisher Files – Looking for a Second Straight LOS Nationals!

(Bill W) August 30, 2010 – Josh Fisher was able to stay in control of a track championship at the Lake Ozark Speedway last Saturday night with a top five finish. This weekend, he will try to win the track’s biggest race, the LOS 360 Nationals for the second year in a row. The event will be contested this Saturday and Sunday night, where the finale will pay $4,000 to the winner.

Josh’s night at the Lake aboard the Ozark Barge & Dock Services #86 started with a heat win…sort of. "Jordan Goldesberry, who won over at Jacksonville on Friday night was out front in the heat and won it, actually,” he says. “We were second, but Jordan forgot to go to the scales. That gave us the win there. He came back through the B, and I think he ended up sixth in the feature."

Uncharacteristically, Josh went backwards (from 3rd to 5th) in the dash. "We knew everyone would probably be on top, so we set up the car for the bottom,” he says. “We were trying a few things for the feature that didn't work out."

Josh did a little bit of points racing in his strategy for the feature. He would start inside row three. "We were starting ahead of the second place car (Cody Baker), and the cushion was getting up to the wall,” says the Smithton, Missouri driver. “We've had a couple of accidents lately, so I told Dad to set up the car for the bottom. I thought maybe there was a chance of the bottom taking rubber anyway."

Instead, the cushion took rubber first, and a couple of drivers got by Josh. "I ran down there for 17 laps or so, and we were passed by (Mike) Trent and Austin Alumbaugh, who wrecked,” he says. “They had actually found some rubber on the high side and got by me. Jerrod Hull started in front of me and ran the bottom and ended up winning."

The bottom ended up coming in, and Josh was able to make up some of the ground he had lost. "We were holding our ground down there definitely,” he says. “The bottom started taking a little bit too, and we kind of maintained there for a fifth place finish."

Friday night, Josh struggled in Rick Northrop’s #83 at Jacksonville Speedway in Illinois. There has been trouble getting the car around the high-banked ¼ mile all year long. Driver and owner decided it was time to try someone else in the car from here on out. "I've just struggled to master that track,” says Josh. “We tried about everything we could do. Hopefully, they can get someone in there that knows the track and can do well. It was good experience for me, and I have to thank Rick for the opportunity."
